How to choose a gas hob?

Apr 27,2021

The gas stove is a kitchen utensil that is used frequently. A high-quality gas hob can greatly improve cooking efficiency and make us enjoy our cooking time! The poor quality gas hob is not only inefficient in cooking, but also easy to blacken the kitchen utensils. So it is important to choose a gas hob for our kitchen. How to choose a good gas hob? I would like to share some tips with you!

A good gas stove must have the following features:

High firepower, convenient ignition, safety, rust resistance burner, easy to clean.

Now, aiming at these five features, let me tell you how to choose a good gas hob.

Let me talk about the firepower first.

In the store, many shopping guides tell you that "the heat load of a gas hob is mostly between 3.8kw-5kw, the higher the heat load, the greater the firepower, and often choose 4kw or more for stir-firing a dish", this viewpoint is correct, but it is one-sided.

In addition to the heat load, we also need to pay attention to the energy efficiency rating!

Because the energy efficiency rating is related to the thermal efficiency, if the heat load is also 4kw, the higher the thermal efficiency, the greater the firepower and the more energy-saving.

When purchasing, a high heat load and a high energy efficiency rating is the real big firepower.

Secondly, we should choose a good ignition.

Today the market has mainly two types of ignition: electronic pulse ignition and piezoelectric ignition.

At present, most gas hobs have come with pulse ignition. The piezoelectric ignition has been gradually eliminated.

When purchasing, we should pay attention to whether the gas hob is ordinary pulse ignition or automatic pulse ignition!

Ordinary pulse ignition requires a period of time after pressing the knob to successfully ignite. Even if you see that there is already a fire, the ignition will still fail if you release your hand in the middle.

There is no need to press the knob after the automatic pulse ignition is operated. The pulse continues to ignite. After a few seconds, the automatic ignition is successful.

So automatic pulse ignition is better than ordinary pulse ignition.

Next, let's discuss the safety device.

The safety of gas hobs depends on whether the gas source can be cut off in time after the flame is turned off. This is what we call a safety device.

The national standard "Household Gas Hobs" stipulates that gas hobs without safety devices shall not be sold starting from January 1, 2009.

So we don’t need to worry about the safety devices, we need to consider which one to choose.

There are two types of safety devices on the market: thermocouple and ion induction.

Thermocouple safety device:

The gas source is cut off by the temperature difference sensed by the thermocouple. Some manufacturers can make it cut off the gas source in about 10-20 seconds. Thermocouples do not need electricity. So most manufacturers adopt this method, which is low cost and mature in the application.

Ion induction safety device:

The gas source can be cut off by sensing the ions of the flame. In theory, it can be cut off the gas source in 0.5 seconds. Because it is too sensitive (the gas source will be also cut off when the flame wobbles), the manufacturer has made a delay of 4-6 seconds, and it can be cut off in 6 seconds when the flame is accidentally turned off. At present, only a few manufacturers use this method. The ion induction type requires power consumption, and the frequency of user replacement of the battery will be relatively high.

Thereby, many users will choose the thermocouple safety device for their gas hob.

Besides, we have to consider the problem of rust on the burner.

The main problem of burner rust is the material.

There are three main burners: cast iron base and copper cap, aluminum base and copper cap, all copper burner.

First of all, the all-copper burner is the best, because copper conducts heat quickly and is not easy to oxidize and rust, but it is expensive. At present, there are relatively few models of all-copper burners on the market.

The difference between cast iron base and aluminum alloy base is temperature resistance. Cast iron has better temperature resistance but is easy to rust; aluminum alloy has poor temperature resistance but does not easy to rust.

Why are some models of the same base more expensive? The difference is in the copper content of the copper cap. Some are all-copper caps, and some are copper alloy caps. All-copper ones are definitely better, but the price will be higher. It depends on personal needs.

Finally, it is the cleaning.

Cleaning mainly involves the choice of panels.

At present, there are three types of gas stove panels: stainless steel, tempered glass, and ceramic. Stainless steel is resistant to high temperature and corrosion, but it is not easy to clean. Tempered glass is easy to clean, but its temperature resistance is not as good as stainless steel. The ceramic panel is high temperature resistant and easy to clean. But its price is high, so there are few ceramic panel gas stoves on the market. There are mainly stainless steel and tempered glass gas stoves on the market. It is recommended to buy stainless steel for those with a small budget and tempered glass for those with enough budget.
